  • 1600 Astronomers Tycho Brahe ("The man with the golden nose" - he lost the tip of his in a duel) and Johannes Kepler meet for first time outside of Prague, together they accurately log the paths of the planets.
  • 1703 46 ronin {masterless samurai) commit highly honorable seppuku (ritual suicide) after fulfilling the Code of Bushido for their late master. Each year thousands of Japanese visit the grave site of the ronin at Sengaku-ji Temple to pay homage to their honor and loyalty
  • 1789 The Electoral College unanimously elects George Washington as the first President of the United States. No one else has ever been unanimously elected.
  • 1859 Codex Sinaiticus is discovered in Egypt. It is was handwritten over 1600 years ago, a Christian bible written in Greek, the oldest known bible.
